Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome, or RLS, is a sleep disorder that is characterized by the uncontrollable urge to move in order to stop an uncomfortable sensation. The sensation is often hard to explain for many sufferers and may be described as a burning, tingling, prickling, itching or even painful sensation in the legs. The urge to move is much stronger at night than in the morning, making it very difficult to get restful sleep. RLS is a ‘spectrum’ disease which means that some people experience a minor annoyance and others experience major issues. RLS has no can start in early childhood, and can get progressivly worse for some afflicted with the disease.

Signs and symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome:

  • An urge to move, usually due to uncomfortable sensations that occur in the legs and occasionally in the arms or elsewhere.
  • Restlessness to relieve the urge to move through activity.
  • Worsening of symptoms by relaxation.
  • Symptoms worse in the evening and early in the night
